The otherworld

An odd weekend…Gill and Cormac were away in Launceston while I occupied the foggy limbo that is night shifts. Always feels a little strange to be on nights – it feels like one exists somehow outside of humanity gazing back in. Awake when “normal” people are asleep, eating meals at strange times and disconnected from society a little. In my job, this detached sensation is magnified by having to patch up the denizens of the dark after their nocturnal activities. In Hobart last weekend, that meant stabbings. Lots of stabbings. There is a world out there inhabited by people other than “civilised” and I am privy to it, whether I like it or not. I am glad I know it exists, but I am very happy to not be part of it!

Thats not a knife...
